Offshore Technical Compliance announces that the GREENLIGHT suite of tools is taking a major new step with a new addition: GREENLIGHT-Yard.

GREENLIGHT, a digital pressure testing software suite that can be used to conduct, analyze and document a wide variety of pressure tests, is on its mark to take the next leap ahead – to land.

OTC GREENLIGHT, the culmination of nearly 10 years of development, testing and programming, has become the new standard in digital pressure testing for blowout preventers (BOP’s). Powered by Hecate, GREENLIGHT’s methodology involves delivering the highest industry standard in pressure testing..

GREENLIGHT-Yard, with its focus on land, features many of the same capabilities the GREENLIGHT software suite offers for offshore projects to help make them a success.

“Digital technologies for the testing of blowout preventers were first introduced into the oil and gas industry nearly 10 years ago,” said Mike Bethea, CEO of OTC. “These technologies have gained widespread acceptance, so much so that land-based rental equipment companies have now seen the potential for their use. GREENLIGHT-Yard is targeted at meeting the unique needs of those companies.”

GREENLIGHT-Yard features many of the same capabilities that has made GREENLIGHT so successful offshore:

  • Use of a traffic light system to show results of a pressure test each second.
  • Predictive and non-predictive algorithms for assessing high-pressure tests.
  • Objective analyses independent of personnel performing the tests.
  • Quicker results than standard testing procedures.

GREENLIGHT-Yard’s user interface also includes several unique capabilities including:

  • A list of assets that can be managed using the ADD, DUPLICATE, REMOVE and CLEAR buttons.
  • A button for report generation directly from GREENLIGHT-Yard.

What makes GREENLIGHT-Yard different?

“GREENLIGHT-Yard uses the tried-and-true analyst capabilities of GREENLIGHT, coupled with a new user interface to allow components being tested to be swapped-out often – sometimes between every test – a situation not encountered when testing BOP’s or choke manifolds,” said Eric Livesay, CEO of Hecate.

GREENLIGHT-Yard & GREENLIGHT: A side-by-side look

The main difference between GREENLIGHT–Yard and GREENLIGHT is the type of testing each addresses.

GREENLIGHT-Yard GREENLIGHT
GREENLIGHT-Yard is aimed at testing rental equipment that serves onshore and offshore between pressure testing at an equipment storage yard. GREENLIGHT has been used for BOP testing in offshore locations since its approval by BSEE in 2015.
GREENLIGHT-Yard is designed around the testing of components that do change between every test. GREENLIGHT is designed to test a static set of components – the choke manifold and BOP – on a rig that do not change during testing (are not swapped-out between tests).

“GREENLIGHT-Yard has been used successfully during several field trials,” Livesay said. “GREENLIGHT-Yard is in the final stages of field trials, and once it is commercially deployed, GREENLIGHT-Yard will be a strong addition to the GREENLIGHTsuite.”

Creating a land-based application for the GREENLIGHT digital pressure testing suite is how we’d always intended the software suite to evolve, Bethea said.

“We are thrilled to unveil our first dedicated use of the GREENLIGHT software suite for land operations,” he said. “The more solutions we add into the GREENLIGHT software suite, the more we enhance its future potential.”
