Offshore Technical Compliance recently hosted an online event on OTC GREENLIGHT, a digital pressure testing software suite that can be used to conduct, analyze and document a wide variety of pressure tests, not just those specific to blowout preventers (BOP’s).

Learn more about GREENLIGHT, powered by Hecate, in the Q&A below or sign up to see the online event on-demand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why not use circle charts as we always have?

A. Digital pressure testing removes subjectivity. Circle charts are subjective because of the inherent lack of clarity and fidelity. Also, in many applications, the predictive nature of  GREENLIGHT for high-pressure tests can save as much as 50% in required time for BOP testing versus conventional circle chart methods.

Q. What support is provided?

A. 24/7 support is available and provided at no additional charge through the Offshore Technical Compliance call center.

Q. What about using GREENLIGHT FOR well intervention work or abandonment work?

A. GREENLIGHT can be used in a variety of settings including interventions, workovers, coiled tubing and wireline operations.

Q. Can this system help rig personnel troubleshoot for leaks?

A. While GREENLIGHT is not a leak detection system, it can be very helpful in troubleshooting for problems of this nature.

Q. Can the system be used for stump testing and integrity tests?

A. For stump testing, yes. GREENLIGHT has been used for stump testing on several different rigs in Gulf of Mexico. An analyst for integrity tests has been developed and is currently undergoing field trials.

Q. How secure is the data in making sure nothing is “tampered” with or manipulated?

A. GREENLIGHT uses a proprietary file system that cannot be tampered with or manipulated.

Q. How can GREENLIGHT run independently of volume and temperature?

A. GREENLIGHT uses a single, empirically determined equation for a wide range volumes and temperatures. Although the volume and temperature do not explicitly appear in the equation, they affect the value of the coefficients in that equation which are reassessed every time a new data point is collected, typically once per second.

Q. Are your technicians required to be present for all testing?

A. No. If the operator or client prefers to run the software on their own, GREENLIGHT technicians will train rig personnel to utilize the system. OTC can further provide remote support to assist at no additional charge.

Q. Will BLUEPRINT verify that all tests have been completed according to the test plan?

A. BLUEPRINT allows the user to a.) draw schematics of the BOP and choke manifold, b.) to define a test plan and then c.) see a summary of the status – tested or not tested – for each component in each test of the test plan. For each test in the test plan, BLUEPRINT automatically verifies which components have been tested and from which side. Additional verification features are currently being incorporated into BLUEPRINT, such as the identification of enclosed volumes.

Q. How has GREENLIGHT performed with fluids other than synthetics, i.e brine?

A. The algorithms for assessing low pressure and high pressure tests in GREENLIGHT are the same regardless of fluid type.

Q. Can the software be run remotely by shore based personnel?

A. Yes, this has been demonstrated on multiple occasions using TeamViewer.

Q. Is the system available internationally?

A. Yes, contact our sales representative for more details.
